Screwed big time by Google Penguin update

Google recently updated their search ranking algorithm. They name this update “penguin”. This update totally screwed me.

I have this coupon website CouponIndia.in and I was growing in traffic with every post and working even harder to get things even better.  And now this update cut the traffic to less than half.

Now I have this decision to make whether to keep on posting the coupons in the same way or to read Google webmaster guidelines again and work according to it.

If I work according to Google it is going to take double work and more important thing will be it is going to be annoying for the users as I will be posting more about the offer or store or something stupid lines that users are not concerned about. They come to my site to see coupon and they see only that. So following google’s guidelines is going to give bad experience to users

I know it is not possible for Google to get see every site with different way so I will need to update myself.

Lets see how it goes.

Basics

A long back I was watching a cricket match and the commentator said a very insightful thing,

I seriously think this is what you need to do in anything you do if you want to be good.

Most of the people think of doing great things but they stress on doing accessory things more than the basics. Sometimes they become/seem good for a short time but later they fail miserably.

Now the main thing. I know this and writing about it but I need to do this to become good.

Right Time, Right Place, Right Offer

This is the concept of all the business and marketing. For example, If you have a great offer it may not see the response it deserves if the time and place is wrong and same is true with other conditions too.

You need to have all the three things correct to get the correct response.

But this should not be used as an excuse for not doing things. You have to find the correct combination by doing things. It may be wrong but you will learn to do things right more frequently. You will earn more later even if this offer fails.

Stay away from Cloudflare

Some time back I became a little obsessive about increasing my site’s speed and I did a lot of thing and managed to get my page loading time come down to half than earlier.

1 thing I did was to use cloudflare to get a free CDN for my site. It did some better things by getting the response time down but the thing that made me ditch cloudflare is the captcha they place on the incoming traffic. You might have seen that page.

As they say they place this captcha page to screen the malicious attacker but what got my attention is that they place this Google AdSense ads on those page. If the page is for attacker then why are they placing that page. Some may argue that they are giving free service so they have to cover the cost somehow. May be. But isn’t its against the AdSense policy to get ads clicked by robots.

Ok I ask you. If you know some page is going to get hit by robots regularly and you may lose your AdSense account then will you place your ads on those pages? I won’t.

I removed the cloudflare after using it for some time because it was showing me that captcha page every time I visited my own website (may be I am a attacker on my own site, at least they consider I am). Its quite annoying seeing that page even though I was getting benefit of it. Think about the visitors who are not getting anything from cloudflare, how annoying it is for them.

After I removed my traffic jumped a bit. I don’t mind my site being slow if the traffic goes up. I don’t think you will mind either.

I told you about the travel affiliate marketing I am trying to get into in my blog post earlier. I have been successful with it on couponindia.in but until now I am not been doing good with the new site flightdiscountcoupons.com.

It becomes really annoying when things doesn’t go according to the plans.

The site was instantly on the search result for my primary keyword but later it sank to page 3/4. I need to get this site come back into the rankings. But the biggest headache is that now I have 2 sites to get rankings in the search results.

Wonder will I be successful or not.

This is interesting

It has all came down to nil.

I was making some nice commission from my new website for a month or so and since day before yesterday the commissions has came down to interestingly negligible level. Until now I am unable to find a reason. The traffic level is same if not rising as it was previously, click rate is even higher but don’t know why it is not converting at all.

I am only getting 1-2 sales per day now where I was getting some 6-10 per day.

Is it a sign to not to depend on this site or something else.

I should find a way round. May be PPC may prove to be a good idea.

Late Night Ideas Rocks

Sometime I get these interesting ideas when I am unable to sleep at night. Most of those ideas I forget until morning but there are few which don’t let me sleep, I have to leave my bed at those wee hours to do something with those ideas.

I started one such sites way back and that site grew like something I never expected that too solely on pure on site SEO. It became base of my online growth.

Something similar happened again but this time this site is earning me much more in much lesser time.

About 4 months ago I got this idea of starting a website and started working on it the very minute. For this site for the first time I purchased a premium wordpress theme as I believed on the idea. I thought I will at least make this website able to cover cost of the theme. This site has now earned more than that from each of the 3 affiliate network I am using on this website in this month alone.

Its showing a great growth potential if I keep working on it. The site gets high quality visitors who are ready to spend money. The site crossed 200 visitors per day mark today and its rising in google like crazy.

I hope it keeps on growing and I will be able to learn some important lessons from this site too.

Learning from movies

I don’t watch movies too often but I have noticed that whenever I watch one I get so much motivated by it that I work good for at least some hours if not days.

Good thing about me learning from movies is that I absorb god things from it like working harder, loving better, helping others and something like that.

I enjoy movies which motivates more than how much they make me enjoy.
